Concrete and Screed: How to Calculate the Volume Needed

Measuring the Area and Depth

To determine the volume of concrete or screed needed, you must first measure the length, width, and depth of the area where it will be used. This can be done with a measuring tape or laser level. For example, if you have a room that is 22 meters long, 35 meters wide, and 2 meters high, the area of the floor is 22 meters multiplied by 35 meters, which equals 770 square meters.

Calculating the Volume

Once you know the area of the surface, you can calculate the volume by multiplying the area by the depth. In the example above, if the screed will be 6 centimeters thick, the volume would be 770 square meters multiplied by 0.06 meters, which equals 46.2 cubic meters. Therefore, you would need 46.2 cubic meters of screed to cover the floor of the room.

Example Calculations

  • 22 meters x 35 meters x 02 meters = 154 cubic meters of concrete
  • 2 meters x 36 meters x 01 meter = 72 cubic meters of screed
