Earthquake Rattles Southern California, but No Major Damage Reported

Magnitude 5.2 Quake Hits Near Lamont

Residents Across the Region Feel Tremors

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Lamont, California, on Tuesday night, shaking a large swath of Southern California. The quake was felt as far north as Bakersfield and as far south as San Diego.

There were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries. However, the earthquake did cause some power outages and disruptions to traffic.

The earthquake occurred at 10:19 p.m. PDT, about 10 miles northwest of Lamont, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was the largest to hit Southern California since a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Ridgecrest in 2019. That earthquake caused widespread damage and injuries.

Seismologists say it is too early to say whether the Lamont earthquake is a foreshock to a larger earthquake. However, they are urging residents to be prepared for aftershocks.
