Provo, Utah, shooting leaves three dead including the suspect

Three people were killed in a shooting at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.

The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Matthew Hollingsworth, was also killed in the shooting.

The shooting occurred at the university's campus safety building just before 11 a.m. local time.

According to Provo Police Chief Fred Ross, Hollingsworth entered the building and opened fire with a handgun, striking and killing two people inside the building.

Hollingsworth then exited the building and exchanged fire with a responding officer, fatally striking the officer before being shot and killed himself.

The victims, whose names have not yet been released, were all employees of the university's police department.

The university was placed on lockdown during the incident, but the lockdown has since been lifted.

The incident is still under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
