Tigers News Tigers Recall Wenceel Perez Option Infielder To Toledo

## Tigers News: Tigers Recall Wenceel Perez, Option Infielder to Toledo The Detroit Tigers made a couple of roster moves on Thursday, recalling right-handed pitcher Wenceel Perez from Triple-A Toledo and optioning infielder Zack Short to Toledo. Perez, 26, has been solid in five starts for Toledo this season, going 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 25 innings. He has allowed just 20 hits and six walks. Short, 27, has struggled at the plate this season, hitting just .194 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 41 games. He has also struck out 39 times. Perez is expected to start for the Tigers on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox. ### Perez's Strong Start Perez has been one of the Tigers' most impressive pitchers in the minors this season. He has a good fastball and a developing changeup and slider. He has also shown good command of his pitches. Perez was acquired by the Tigers from the Kansas City Royals in a trade for outfielder Jorge Bonifacio in December. He spent the 2021 season with Double-A Erie, going 9-5 with a 3.45 ERA in 22 starts. ### Short's Struggles Short has been a disappointment at the plate this season. He has not been able to make consistent contact and has struck out too much. He has also made some errors in the field. Short was acquired by the Tigers from the Chicago Cubs in a trade for pitcher Casey Mize in December. He spent the 2021 season with Triple-A Iowa, hitting .293 with 12 home runs and 56 RBIs in 108 games. ### Outlook The Tigers are hoping that Perez can continue to pitch well and help the team out of its current losing streak. Short will need to improve his performance at the plate if he wants to earn a regular spot in the Tigers' lineup.
