Cori Bush Loses Primary Race to Wesley Bell
In a stunning upset, Representative Cori Bush of Missouri, one of the most outspoken progressives in the House, lost her primary on Tuesday to Wesley Bell, a former state representative and Ferguson activist.
Bush becomes second Squad member ousted in a primary
Bush's defeat marks the second time a member of the Squad, a group of progressive Democratic lawmakers, has been ousted in a primary this year. In June, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York defeated a primary challenge from former CNBC host Michelle Caruso-Cabrera.
Bell, who was endorsed by former Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and several labor unions, ran on a platform of economic populism and support for working families.
